Vibrant colour, aromas of red berry, florals, herbs, orange peel and sweet spice resembling red wine-based vermouth. A crunchy lively palate crisp palate showing elements of each variety. The Negro Amaro adding floral, citrus and the spice element, Montepulciano adding the red berry fruit, with Aglianico giving rose and dried herb element. All three varietals have delivered fine tannin and natural acid.

Montepulciano and Aglianico : Stansborough Vineyard (Williamstown)

Negroamaro : Andretzke Vineyard (Angaston)

 

Blend:

Montepulciano 43%, Negroamaro 43%, Aglianico 14%

 

Viticulture:

The Stansborough vineyard is around 260-280m above sea level with an east west aspect. Soil consists of a shallow red clay top soil over friable red clay with bands of quartz, ironstone and shale. The Montepulciano and Aglianico were planted in 2011 and are SAVii01 & FP501 respectively. The Montepulciano is spur pruned to 32-36 buds per vine and green thinned, with the Aglianico cane pruned and also thinned. The mid rows are cultivated to winter active fescue. The Negroamaro was grafted onto old vine Semillon in 2014 and is spur pruned.
