Story Behind The Label

The shapes are the Cabernet & Shiraz vineyard blocks on our estate. The lines show the number of rows in each block. The overlapping Cabernet block represents it’s smaller percentage in the blend. As 4th generation grape growers we wanted our Estate range to reflect our love of the land.

The Fruit

Grown on our Estate at Whistler Wines, Seppeltsfield Road, Stone Well, Barossa Valley. The Shiraz is a combination of our original plantings from 1994, with three different clones of Shiraz- Kalimna 3c, 1654 and BVRC30. The Cabernet Sauvignon is clone D3V14 planted in 1997 on a lovely south-east facing slope with lots of broken quartz in the soil.

Winemaking

Traditional open top fermentation using wild yeast, hand plunging and gentle pressing before going to oak. This wine was matured in 30% new French oak puncheons along with 70% older French oak for 16 months before blending and bottling with no fining. The final blend is 75% Shiraz and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Wine

This classic Barossa blend has a beautiful bouquet of cherries, mixed spices and Eucalypts which comes from the 3000+ native gumtrees surrounding the property. The palate starts out fruit forward with bright blueberries and hints of coffee, then leads into a grippy mouthfeel that lingers and coats the mouth.

Story Behind The Label

The shape on the label is the single site Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard on our estate. The 68 lines represent the exact number of rows in the block. As 4th generation grape growers we wanted our Estate range to reflect our love of the land.

The Fruit

Grown on our Estate at Whistler Wines, Seppeltsfield Road, Marananga, Barossa Valley. Clone D3V14 planted in 1997 on a lovely south-east facing slope with lots of broken quartz in the soil.

Winemaking

Traditional open fermentation using wild yeast, with a total maceration of 3 weeks. The wine was gently basket pressed before going to oak. This wine was matured in 20% 1 year old French oak hogsheads along with 70% in seasoned French oak Puncheons. Elevage took place for 18 months before blending and bottling with no fining.

The Wine

Very bright & deep red colour in the glass. This is a typical Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon with loads of bright red fruit/cassis and dried herbs on the nose, with hints of dark peppermint chocolate. The palate is full of pure red & dark fruits with fine grained tannins. This wine has a long life ahead with careful cellaring.
